Some New Books

Some new books are coming out all about animal ethics, from Palgrave Macmillan.
in partnership with the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics headed by its Director Rev. Professor Andrew Linzey. He is one editor of the series along with Professor Priscilla Cohn, Emeritus Professor in Philosophy at Penn State University.

These cover a wide range of disciplines including anthropology, ethics, history, law, literature, linguistics, political theory, religion and science. The scope is both conceptual and practical.

Two books are out soon. One is An Introduction to Animals and Political Theory from Alasdair Cochrane and it uses political theory in relationship to animals relating to liberalism, utilitarianism, communitarianism, Marxism, and feminism. Another, An Introduction to Animals and the Law, by Joan Schaffner looks at animal law as it is evolving and also proposes how law might would look if the inherent worth of all animals was protected.

Later will come books by Andrew Knight on Animal Experiments, Claire Molloy looking at Popular Media and Animals, and Nicola Hoggard Creegan's survey of Animal Suffering and the Problem of Evil.

In fact there are fifteen books in the pipeline. More information is via Samantha Calvert Marketing & PR, using sam@samcalvert.plus.com, +44 (0)1782 505430 / +44 (0)7967 042050. Do look at the Oxford Centre's website.
