Ahmed the Bogeyman

Sermons sometimes have to be written at the last minute, especially when a preacher feels it necessary to relate to the news agenda. This sermon tackles the news storm whirling around Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams's head and also the readings of the day.

Parish Communion, St Mary's Church, Barton-on-Humber
Sunday 10 February 2008 at 09:30 (Lent 1)
Written and delivered by the Rev. David Rowett

Readings: Genesis 2:15-17, 3:1-7; Romans 5:12-19; Matthew 4:1-11

It begins:

'Ahmed the Bogeyman' - that's how one bishop summed up the furore about Archbishop Rowan.

Yes I know: she is very unSharia-like; incidentally if you can guess who the celebrity is then it needs to be said that she does not endorse any part of the morning's sermon - just so that this is clear.
